Point Guards

Second year player Deron Williams will handle the point after having a good rookie season.  Williams will probably look to pass a little more than he did last season as long as the Utah front line is healthy.  Williams averaged 10.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game last season.  Williams is an outstanding shooter, as he hit 41.6% of his three-pointers.

Williams’ teammate at Illinois, Dee Brown will probably open the year as Williams’ back-up.  He’s not as polished as Williams and more than likely will need a little time to adjust to the NBA.

Look for Derek Fisher, the likely starter at shooting guard, to get some minutes here too.

Back-up point guard out

Milt Palacio is out indefinately while he is recovering from knee surgery.  This will hurt the team a little, because I’m sure he could have showed Deron Williams a few tricks.

Jerry Sloan is one of the greatest NBA coaches to never win a championship.  Sloan has a record of 890-537 in 18 seasons with the Jazz.  For his career, his record is 984-658 over 21 seasons.  Sloan is the glue that always holds the Jazz together.

Sloan is 76-76 in 15 appearances in the playoffs with the Jazz, and has a career playoff record of 78-80.
