Paul Millsap and Matt Harpring need to pick up the slack

Blogged under Front Page,Need to step up by Nothing but Net on Wednesday 31 January 2007 at 4:48 pm

With Carlos Boozer out look for rookie Paul Millsap to get big minutes.  He’s been impressive so far this season in limited duty.  He’s only averaged 16.0 minutes played per game this season, but, he’s averaging 6.2 points and 4.6 rebounds.  If he can double those averages the Jazz will be o.k.  Matt Harpring will also get some minutes at power forward.  He’s averaging 24.2 minutes, 10.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game this season, so chances are he’ll play well with the extra minutes.

The Jazz suffer a devastating injury!

Blogged under Big Jazz News,Front Page,Injuries by Nothing but Net on Wednesday 31 January 2007 at 4:43 pm

Carlos Boozer will miss 4-5 weeks with a hairline fracture to his left fibula.  The Jazz will have a hard time replacing the 22.1 points, 11.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists that Boozer was averaging this season.  Look for rookie Paul Millsap to get most of the minutes and Matt Harpring to get some of them too.

The Jazz lose a stunner 116-115 to the Nets in Utah

Deron Williams missed a free throw with 5.9 second left in the game and then Vince Carter dribbled the ball all the way down the court and hit a 35-footer to end the game!  It’s amazing that the Jazz lost a game in which they outrebounded their opponent 44-21, but they did!  Deron Williams led the way for the Jazz with 25 points and 5 assists.  Mehmet Okur had a solid all-around game with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists.  Derek Fisher also had a decent game with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

The Jazz were tossing up alot of bricks tonight as they only hit 37.5% of their shots from the floor.  Deron Williams led the Jazz with 27 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists.  Carlos Boozer left the game with a knee injury after only 4 minutes, so rookie Paul Millsap stepped up and scored 15 points and grabbed 17 rebounds.

Jazz fall 132-130 in OT to the Grizzlies in Utah

How can you lose a game when you shoot 55.1% from the floor as a team and outrebound the opposition 56-35?  Hard to believe but the Jazz did lose this game.  Carlos Boozer had a monster game with 39 points & 15 rebounds.  Mehmet Okur also had a monster game with 27 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists.  Andrei Kirilenko had a solid all-around game with 18 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocked shots.  Deron Williams only hit 3 of 13 shots from the floor and wound up with only 7 points, but, he also had 5 rebounds and 21 assists.

Derek Fisher needs to play better

Blogged under Front Page,Need to step up by Nothing but Net on Wednesday 24 January 2007 at 2:23 am

Derek Fisher has not played well in the last 8 games he has played.  Fisher has only hit 33.9% of his shots from the floor and has averaged 8.4 points, 2.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game in his last 8 games.  If he doesn’t improve his shooting, he will likely start to lose playing time.

Mehmet Okur really playing well

Blogged under Front Page,Steppin Up by Nothing but Net on Wednesday 24 January 2007 at 2:19 am

Mehmet Okur has been great as of late.  In his last 8 games, Okur is averaging 23.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.  Okur has also hit 52.5% from the floor and he’s nailed 16 three-pointers in those games.  He gives the Jazz a mis-match problem as Okur’s range stretches the opposing defense opening shots on the inside for Carlos Boozer.

The Jazz really played well on defense as they held the Bulls to 38.2% shooting from the floor and that’s why they won this game.  Mehmet Okur led the Jazz in scoring as he had 21 points and 11 rebounds.  Carlos Boozer also had a great all-around game with 19 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists.
