The Utah Jazz have a deep, talented bench

It all starts on the bench with Matt Harpring whose all out hustle rubs off on his teammates. He can handle small forward and shooting guard so he should get a lot of minutes this season. Harpring played in 77 games (2 starts) for the Jazz last season and he averaged 25.5 minutes, 11.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. 2nd year power forward Paul Millsap would be starting for half of the league but he’ll be backing up Carlos Boozer again this season. Millsap played in 82 games (1 start) last season for the Jazz and he averaged 18.0 minutes, 6.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Shooting guard Gordan Giricek is a good outside shooter (42.6% on threes last season) but he’s softer than a roll of Charmin on defense. Giricek played in 61 games (6 starts) last season for the Jazz and he averaged 19.5 minutes, 7.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.0 assist. Jarron Collins will be the backup center for the Jazz this season. He played in 82 games (9 starts) for the Jazz last year and he averaged 11.2 minutes, 2.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Jason Hart will be the backup point guard for the Jazz this season. He played in 36 games (22 starts) for the Kings & Clippers last season and he averaged 23.6 minutes, 6.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Ronnie Price will compete for minutes and the backup shooting guard with C.J. Miles and rookie Morris Almond. Price played in 58 games (1 start) last season with the Kings and he averaged 9.8 minutes, 3.3 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. C.J. Miles was re-signed by the Jazz and he will get a shot to play some decent minutes. He played in 37 games (13 starts) for the Jazz last season and he averaged 10.2 minutes, 2.7 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Morris Almond is a 6′6″, 215 pound shooting guard from Rice and he can put the ball in the basket so he could force his way into the playing rotation at some point in the season.

The Utah Jazz only change one starter for 2007-08

The Jazz had no choice to change one player as Derek Fisher left the team as a free agent to sign with a city that had a hospital that could treat his baby daughter for cancer. Here’s to hoping she has a full recovery because Derek Fisher and his family are all class. 2nd year man Ronnie Brewer won the starting shooting guard job in Training Camp and he probably is a better player than Fisher anyways. Brewer played in 56 games (14 starts) last season for the Jazz and he averaged 12.0 minutes, 4.6 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. Deron Williams will try to improve on his outstanding sophomore season this year. He played in 80 games (all starts) last year for the Jazz and he averaged 36.9 minutes, 16.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game. Carlos Boozer is back to do his best Karl Malone imitation. He played in 74 games (all starts) last season for the Jazz and he averaged 34.6 minutes, 20.9 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Mehmet Okur started at center for the Jazz last season and he had a great season. He played in 80 games (all starts) for the Jazz last year and he averaged 17.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. The Jazz really need AK-47 to be focused and improve on last season so that he won’t incur the wrath of his owner again. Kirilenko played in 70 games (all starts) last season for the Jazz and he averaged 29.3 minutes, 8.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.1 blocked shots per game.

The Utah Jazz re-sign guard C.J. Miles

The Jazz have re-signed reserve guard C.J. Miles.  Miles played in 37 games (13 starts) last season for the Jazz and he averaged 10.1 minutes, 2.7 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game last season.  Over his 2-year career, Miles has played in 60 games (13 starts) and he has averaged 3.0 points, 1.2 points and 0.7 assists per game.  Miles will likely have a small role again this season for the Jazz.
