The Utah Jazz are suddenly deep at point guard for 2010-11
26-year old Deron Williams is one of the best point guards on the planet without a doubt. Williams played in 76 games (all starts) for the Jazz last season and he averaged 36.9 minutes, 18.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 10.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He has now played in 386 games (353 starts) in his five years with the Jazz and he has averaged 35.3 minutes, 16.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 9.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game. The great thing about having Williams as the point guard is that even though he’s a pass first guy he can still take over a game with his own shot.
31-year old Earl Watson will likely be the #2 point guard for the Jazz this year. He played in 79 games (52 starts) for the Pacers last season and he averaged 29.4 minutes, 7.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Watson has now played in 676 games (208 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 23.5 minutes, 7.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Watson won’t get as much P.T. as he has in the past but the Jazz will be able to rest Deron Williams a tad more this year to keep him fresh.
27-year old Ronnie Price will likely be #3 in line for P.T. here. He played in 60 games (4 starts) for the Jazz last year and he averaged 13.4 minutes, 4.3 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Price has now played in 260 games (25 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 10.9 minutes, 3.6 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He will have a hard time beating out Earl Watson.
24-year old Sundiata Gaines will likely be at the end of the bench if he makes the team. Gaines played in 32 games (0 starts) as a rookie last season and he averaged 6.8 minutes, 3.3 points, 0.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
