The Utah Jazz need Tyrone Corbin to step it up

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Need to step up by admin on Monday 16 May 2011 at 9:05 pm

48-year old head coach Tyrone Corbin took over when Jerry Sloan stepped down as the head coach of the Jazz, and he had a rough time of it.  When Corbin took over the Jazz, they were sitting at 31-23 (57.4%) with playoff aspirations.  The Jazz then finished the season by going 8-20 (28.6%) under Corbin.  Everything wasn’t Corbin’s fault as the Jazz traded Deron Williams to the Nets at the trade deadline.  But, the Jazz’ fans and organization expect to win after doing so much of it lately under Jerry Sloan.  That means he needs to step up as the head coach starting in 2011-12 if he wants to have this gig long term.

Paul Millsap stepped up for the Utah Jazz in 2010-11

26-year old power forward Paul Millsap stepped into the starting lineup fulltime after Carlos Boozer left for the Windy City as a free agent.  Millsap played in 76 games (all starts) for the Jazz last year and he averaged 34.3 minutes, 17.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game.  He has now played in 398 games (125 starts) in his first five years with the Jazz and he has averaged 26.0 minutes, 11.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.0 blocked shot per game.  Millsap is also shooting 52.8% in his career so far as he’s a very efficient offensive player.  I look for Millsap to improve as time goes on for the Jazz.
